Everyone seems to be ahead of me!!
Thanks to a wet June and July here on Canada's west coast, I was rather
slow getting started, but things are looking better now.
I made the final cut this morning. The fruit I'm going with was germinated
July 31st. Late, - but its growth since has been impressive! - 41"
circumference in 18 days! Hopefully this fine August weather will continue
-
- well into September.
I'm an urban grower, and most of my Marcellus 449 vine tumbles out onto
the lawn. I've have added several wheelbarrows of mounding soil and
manure to the lawn. I water daily, fertilize weekly with a 20-20-20
applicator, and for good measure, sprinkle the ground with granular 6-12-
14 every few weeks. So far so good.
Last week I was delighted with a visit by Ron Wray, a 700+ grower from
Simcoe, Ontario. I don't expect to make that weight - my fondest dream
would be to make half that. Who knows, maybe even the "Top 1000
Pumpkins" list?
Happy growing to all - and no more exploding pumpkins!
