To All,
In preparation for the weekly Pumpkin newsletter that I produce at
work, I was handed a copy of a recent patent application, No. 97-06560. It
starts off as follows:
"Pumpkin ent-kaurene-B-synthase polypeptide-transgenic plant construction with
increased or reduced height by expression of sense and antisense DNA,
respectively (English)....."
It goes on to discuss how the application of this protein can increase or
reduce the height of Curcurbita maxima. Is this the secret of growing a 1061
pound pumpkin? It appears that the work on the protein was done in Japan. Has
anyone heard anything about this?
