A Little Help Please!!

Okay pumpkin friends, it's time for me to get things organized for our
pumpkin patch, the shop, and the field trips. I have several requests
here, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, as always, I am ALWAYS looking for new ideas for our
pumpkin patch. Currently, we are catering to the family. We do not
have a haunted house, and probably won't for several years (if ever).
I'd like to have a scarescrow contest this year, along with the petting
zoo, face painting, and hopefully an authentic tee-pee. If you have any
ideas and would be willing to share them, I'd love to hear from you.

Last year, we ordered coloring books and passed them out to all the
children who came on field trips. This year, I am going to design our
own, making it more personalized. I have a very talented friend who
will illustrate it in coloring book style for me. I plan to include the
world record for the heaviest pumpkin in both my presentation and
coloring book. I would like some ideas as to what I can compare it to -
so that preschoolers and kindergardeners can relate (i.e., 1061 pounds
is about the same weight as a . . . ., OR the pumpkin was about as big
as a . . . . .). Having never actually seen an Atlantic Pumpkin nearly
that big, I'm at a loss. I'm sure you guys can help me out on this
one!! Then, I plan to have the page show a picture of the pumpkin and
whatever we are comparing it to.

Also in my presentation, I talk about what is involved in raising
pumpkins. Last year, I took photos of a pumpkin leaf, a pumpkin
blossom, a very young pumpkin, and a half-ripe pumpkin. I had them
blown up to 8x10s and laminated them. It went over quite well - since
by the time field trips come out, the growing is finished. I am
thinking about telling about the pumpkin's worst enemy (the cucumber
beatle?). Do any of you have a good quality, good sized picture of one
you could e-mail to me? I'll laminate it and include it with the rest
of my pictures.

I've seen several messages requesting/discussing pumpkin recipes. If
time permits, I would like to put together a little booklet of pumpkin
recipes to sell in my shop. If any of you had recipes sent directly to
you, would you mind forwarding them to me? If anybody else has recipes,
I would love to see them!!!

Did anybody go to the Halloween trade show in Rosemont, IL in March?
One of the stores had little smiley-face mylar balloons - about 1 1/2 to
2 inches in diameter that they were sticking on people's shirts. I'm
told that somebody has those same size mylar balloons in pumpkins. If
anybody knows where I might find them, please speak up.

That's all I have for now. Again, ANY ideas (preferable inexpensive)
would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!!

P.S. I could any interesting facts/tidbits about pumpkins, gourds,
corn, etc - I like to give new information each year so as not to bore
the teachers and students.
