Re: milk feeding

<<
Vanessa,
I don't think it is a good idea to spread unproven information about slitting
vines and feeding milk, sucrose or anything else. Grow a 600 pound sucrose
feed pumpkin and I will pay attention...

I agree. And please grow more than one 600 lb'er! And insure somehow it
wouldn't have been 800 lbs without the experimental method(s) applied. Or
better yet, win a contest using new practices, and then let people know how
you did it. But please don't confuse the issues for those of us struggling
to grow our first prize winner.

From an amateur's perspective (mine): I've been trying for years to grow a
pumpkin that would be considered a failure by most people in this group.
Slowly it has sunk into my head to listen to what the proven successful
growers have to say, and to apply their wisdom. Theory and experimentation
are fine and to be applauded; however, an ongoing debate over unproven
techniques has the effect of diluting the value of the information presented
by the group. Especially for the novice growers (like me) who may have
difficulty separating the wheat from the chaff.
