Brock,
I think that giant pumpkin's don't like big doses of fertilizer. Forced
growth could have resulted in the pumpkin split. I think at this time of the
year it is almost better to let the pumpkin come down on it's own, rather
than try to force a few more pounds out of it. The pumpkin skin is tougher
now than it was when it was younger. So it is common for some splits.
