Inexperienced experience.

I'm not an expert in these things, but I'll tell you what happened to me
this year:

I applied 15-15-30 fertilizer through a drip irigation system two days in a
row to my plant (not just the area around the pumpkin) and it split shortly
thereafter. This was about three weeks ago now. I still don't know if
this did it or the extra water I gave it, or both, or a genetic thing but
this sounds familiar. The pumpkin started getting very irregular and bumpy
when this happened. The other fruit on the plant also started to become
very mishapen at the same time, but did not split. It's now my best
prospect. It is still showing this "bumpy" trait. The ribs are very deep
is the only way I can describe it. I never know if this just means it's
growing fast, or on the verge of splitting. Any comments out there?

Need some experienced advice. A friend of mine had a 600lb pumpkin he
fertilized 5 gallons of fish emulsion mixed with water at the base and
another 5gallons 5 feet out in a circle. Boom the next day his pumpkin
split at a dill ring and rib junction. My question is can a plant react
that quick to fertilizer say less than 24 hours?????. No over watering
just the five gallons here and there...........Brock
