John,
Over the top is more accurate due to the different shapes of the
pumpkins. I use the circumference measurement for a guideline. I don't
use the over the top until the pumpkins get to be about 100 inches in C.
It is a lot of work to measure three ways on every pumpkin. I see you
have great start. A pumpkin in the 100's in August is great. Keep up the
good work. Watch for stem stress. At this point the pumpkin is growing so
fast it can really damage the stem. Keep the vines loose. Don't be afraid
to pop a few vine roots. Good Luck.
