starting growing patch

I am new on the group and would like some info on starting my patch.
 
there is three weeks left before planting.I want to prepare the soil and get it ready for the seeds.
 
it will be my first year of growing for the record. if your people can give me some info I will try it out.
 
I saw the big squash on one of the home pages, it looks good.
 
my 155 Pd. "squash" (mine was more white) was a baby to this one.
