The following is an excerpt from PUMPKIN'S PROGRESS (Vol.1, Issue 1) a
very fledgling newsletter supporting the Great South Dakota Pumpkin
Weigh Off:
GIANT PUMPKIN GROWERS' SOCIAL SET FOR AUGUST 22
Anyone recieving this [post on the Pumpkin Mailing List] is invited to
attend the first ever South Dakota regional giant pumpkin growers
picnic. This is planned to be a purely social event to allow giant
pumpkin enthusiasts a chance to get to know one another better, see
another grower's patch and compare growing techniques and problems. It
will be held in the backyard pumpkin patch of second-year rookie giant
pumpkin grower Chris Wilbers in Sioux Falls on August 22. Family
members of growers are also invited. Festivities will begin at 4 p.m.
and conclude around 7 p.m. The event is free, but because hot dogs,
chips, watermelon and pop will be provided an RSVP no later than Aug. 19
is required. When you RSVP directions to the picnic location will be
provided. To RSVP Email: nevus@ideasign.com with your name, number of
people attending, and your telephone number so that we can call you back
with directions. Come prepared to share your pumpkins progress,
including measurments. We hope to meet all of you there!
