Maple Valley turned into Splitsville last week. My two biggestest pumpkins both split in the same place - right under the stem, it was like the stem couldn't keep up with the pumpkins. hopefully it not the genetics of the plant. the pumpkins look like twins both around the 100 pounds. i cut them both off friday and put them on the front porch- that will makes the neighbors really wonder- two 100 lb yellow pumpkin in August ??? I have a luau on saturday that i am in charge of I that i think i will use them for decorations. can you cook the hind quarters of a pig inside a pumpkin in a pit ??? i'd better not try it this time. now the biggest pumpkin on my single plant about beachball size, it was pollenated around the same time as the two that split so it is a slow grower and i think i will cull it too. that would leave a few softball sized pumpkins on my plant. I'm glad i didn't terminate the ends of all my vines. so i'll see what i can do with the rest of the season. I'd still like to have a couple that would take up both sides of the porch on Halloween. -but I figure that I'll just be a spectator at the weighoffs. Gordon Tanner Maple Valley, Splitsville, WA
