Re: Shriveling Leaves

The leaves around the base of my plant are dying also. the leaves turn
brown around the edges, and then it progress in. eventually turning the
whole leaf brown, and crumbly. I checked for borers, nothing. I
checked for stump rot, not a bit. I've been spraying with daconil, but
it still seems to be spreading. It's only around the stump though.
Now, out of the stump i've got these tiny little leaves, maybe only 3"
accross starting to grow. the rest of my plant is green and healthy,
still putting 12-15 pounds a day. 19 lbs on saturday. Obviously it's
not hurting my pumpkin any, but i really wonder what's going on here. I
still have a good 500-600 leaves left, so i'm not really concerned, but
i still would like to prevent this in the future. I only water at soil
level, and have discontinued watering in the evening. Ideas?

PS: Does anyone out there know what the long island pumpkin record is?
I have records for the last 3 years weighoff results, but i can't seem
to find anything on the largest ever grown. Somebody out east last year
CLAIMED to have grown long islands largest pumpkin last year at a
whopping 350 lbs (woopee), but i know for a fact that the winner of last
years weighoff was something like 536 pounds or so. So obviously this
joker, who will remain nameless, tried to put one over on everyone where
i live. Incredibly enough, this being my first year, i have managed to
eclipse that weight, and this guy has a farm, i'm growing in my
backyard! In any event, i'm really curious. Any weighoff coodinators
out there?
