First Crop

First Crop

by Pumpkin Flower

We went to night our family did

To enter in the fair

The scarecrow we’d been working on

To register it there

And placed beneath the old grange hall

I saw the first years crop

Of pumpkins sitting in a line

The sight just made me stop

I’ve no idea just why it is

I love The damn things so

But catch my eye and thrill my heart

They do, oh don’t you know

I must be from my child hood

A joy so deeply felt

That even though I’ve long forgot

That moment , I still melt

Upon the sight of orange globes

Some big ,some small, some round

To see them sitting happily right

There upon the ground

It made my day feel quite complete

And presently tonight

I hope I dream of pumpkins to

Of growing them just right
