Pumpkin Patch

My largest  pumpkin has a small indent in the top, with a 1/4 inch deep hole that's about an 1/8 inch in dia. Can this hole be patched and stopped or will it just turn into a split.The pumpkin is at 163 O.T.T. and my back up is at 155 O.T.T.  I'm wondering if I can patch it or should I just cut  it off?  I would appreciate any advice.
