I've am experiencing the following problem which started about 3 weeks ago
and combined with the heat I am a bit concerned. The last several days, I
have had no real growth on my pumpkin and upon checking with a
friend of mine, a crop consultant agronomist for insurance companies, he
informed me
that I could likely have a systemic bacteria infection. The leaves are
have
started first to turn yellow, then brown, then the stalk turns yellow and
dies. It takes several weeks from the onset of the yellowing before the
leaf
finally dies. The vine itself looks ok but the leaf problem is traveling
down the
length of the main stem and only the secondaries seem to be experiencing
any
growth. I have had and do have cucumber beetles and my friend believes
that
these pests transmitted the bacteria into the plant. We believe we have
ruled
out a fungus infection and my friend suggested that I try antibiotics to
see if
that will help but I am concerned for my lone pumpkin. If anybody has had
similiar
symptoms or knows where to pick up some antibiotics I would be most
appreciate for
that information. Thanks for your help. Steve M.
