Re: Official Weight question

steve,
as far as i know, there's a minimal entrance fee to GPC weighoffs, you
dont' have to pay to be a member or anything.

I don't understand the whole deal about weigh-offs either, actually. Some
imply that you have to be some sort of "member" of a specific organization,
etc. I am confused how it all works. I thought ALL AG growers were
basically
united, we HAVE to be in order to have standardized weighing methods, to
know
what pumpkin is officially bigger than another, etc. Now I hear stuff about
having to be a member of the organazation, or something. Then you have to
BUY
a tarp from a specific place....whoah, that seems a bit far. (Considering
it
costs tons of money and time to GROW the pumpkin, and instead of WINNING
anything, you have to PAY MORE?!). I used to think these weigh offs were
open
to ANYONE who had a big enough pumpkin! Now it seems so exclusive, and each
weigh off seems so disconnected from others. I am totally confused at how
it
all works.
