I don't know any organization that requires growers to buy tarps?? growers
can bring their pumpkins in on almost anything!(and usually do) from nets to
blankets to homemade as well as bought tarps.
when pumpkins come into the fair we unload them from the Trucks,vans,
trailers ect ect no pumpkin is placed on a scale with a customer supplied
carrier. "at least in my 11 years of carrying them"
as for the fee, the 15 or so dollars to join most organizations goes towards
the newsletters(well worth the $$) certificates and plaques and postage. i
don't know anyone personally who is getting rich off of this? most people
donate their own time to promote the hobby.
