My biggest one so far is 50" in circumference and looks like a partially
deflated yellow beachball, I think it is almost three weeks old. It
picks up anywhere from 1" to 3" in circumference a day. Its stump was
looking preety gooky about a week ago (probably all that excessive
watering) so I sprayed it with a fungicide and piled on the dirt.
Pumpkin growing is a great thing, whenever something goes wrong, you
just bury it! So far this 50" is the only fruit that shows promise on
this vine. All the others seemed to stop around 10". I was looking at
the plant today and was pondering the possibility of ending the main
vine. As I was contemplating this, Irving, my Weimaraner pup, walked
over and snapped the end off. Decision made -- good boy Irving! And,
after I got over the shock, I buried the end of the vine.
My second vine also only has one fruit of any substance. It's about 33"
in circumference and very round.
My third vine has two fruits going, both very long -- one about 30" and
the other 20".
I've got my fingers crossed for the 50 incher. Dare I dream 100lbs?
200lbs?
