Re: Official Weight question

I believe Ray does run the WPC as he coordinated the weighoff(s) last year.

Carrying tarps of course can weigh different amounts. There are
several different makers, presumably with different stocks of cloth
and different methods of manufacture. Some of
the tarps even come in different sizes depending on how big
a pumpkin you will be lifting.
Now here's why this doesn't matter...
When I went to the WPC weighoff in Clarence, NY last year, Ray
weighed all pumpkins alone- no tarp, pallet, blanket, etc. Just the
pumpkin was weighed.
The pumpkins were transported to the scale via forklift, assisted
at times by 8 shuffling guys and a tarp, to lift it onto/off of
the pallet or scale. But when it came time to actually weigh it,
it was placed on the scale and carefully rolled to remove any tarp
or foreign material. The weight recorded was the weight of the
pumpkin alone.

Perhaps Ray now wants all entrants on a tarp to hasten the weighing
process (which takes a few hours to get through everybody), or
for safety.  I'm fairly sure it isn't simply to sell more tarps;
put on your weighoff-coordinator hat and think what you might do to
make things run more smoothly or safely.

I'm growing a pumpkin at a pace to top 1500 pounds... if I can keep it growing
thru December! :-)
