I regret that I mislead everyone on the subject of the air tube which
runs around the circumference of AG seeds. I had looked at only a few
other cucurbits thought two might lack an air tube.
Nick Welty looked at two dozen cultivars of C. maxima, C. pepo, and
gourds and found all have the tube. I reexamined my cucurbits and Nic is
correct.
The tube is small and pithy in some of the seeds I first examined.
Those seeds were low quality (immature) and less than 1/4 germinated.
That ends one of my favorite genetics projects.
