Is it "OKAY" to cut the main vine?

Hi all,

One of my best growing pumpkins is getting ready to start leaning against the
main vine. It is also growing off the main vine. Should I just let nature
take it course and let the vine be crushed or should I lop it off and get it
out of the way of my pumpkin? The part of the vine that is in danger of
being crushed isn't being used to grow the pumpkin, it is just the last 2
feet or so of the main vine. And, if I should cut, would pruning spray {like
the kind used when pruning branches from trees} be used to cover the cut end?
Any thing else I should be doing?
