Right. There is enough energy in the seed to create the cotyledons (seed
leaves). But that energy does not make the sprouts green. Once I was
germinating seeds in a dark cabinet and didn't get back to them soon enough.
They were a foot tall and stone white. They greened up very quickly when
I moved them into the light - in one half-hour there was green visible. But
in darkness there is no photosynthesis, hence no green.
