Cross Results

This genetic thing is so complicated and so much depending on some good luck
that it is a real crap shoot. The genes in each seed are such a mishmosh
(spelling?) that I believe it would take years to develop a guaranteed good
seed. Several years back I crossed the Zehr 1061 with the Greer 1006, the
one-ton cross. I had pumpkins on each plant for seed purposes. A number of
these seeds were planted. The female 1006/male 1061 did much better than the
female 1061/male 1006. The former seeds, according to a reliable source,
produced a number of 700 pounders while the latter didn't produce much of
anything. Oh if only it was simple and straight forward.
