If the farmer is growing C maxima pumpkins, then you need
to protect your flowers from crossing. Some pumpkins are
maximas, some are pepos. It would be very unlikely for
pepos to cross though.
Mild correction comming... Horses breed with donkeys to
make mules, making "true" hybrids, ie they're sterile
crosses between species.
Cornish cross chickens(white Plymouth Rock X white
Cornish), are also called hybrids, because breeding cornish
cross to each other will not produce simalar chickens,
instead they produce throwbacks, and other odd offspring.
So the cornish cross isn't a breed, but is a hybrid in
breeders terms. This analogy might apply to AGs by having
your neighbor's big max (C. maxima) cross with your AG(also
C. maxima). You'd end up with "hybrid" seeds, even though
they'd still be C. maxima specie. I wish they'd come up
with a different term than hybrid for breed crosses.
