Re: Which plants should I cross ? ?

Wim:

From 9 different seeds you can select a pair between
9 x 8 = 72 possible pairs, considering too the location
for each plant; i.e., in the couple Kincaid 380 & Maston 570
there are still two options (to decide the relative placement
of the pair of plants).

If you want to grow 3 plants, you will have 72 x 7 = 504 options to
select from, including the location for each plant.

Now, if you plan to cultivate 4 plants, you must select from
504 x 6 =3,024 options, including the placement for each plant.

In the average, it means to analyze 25 options daily, during the
next four months!! Hence, it is a good idea to ask the list to reduce
the number of options...

There are a resemblance between a chess grand master and a pumpkin
heavy hitter, considering the ability to choose the right movement
from a immense amount of possible ones in a very short period of time.
Simply, if an experienced grower wants to choose 4 seeds from a set
of 100 different seeds, the number of combinations (quartets) he must
consider is almost 100 millions of choices, including the relative
placement of the four plants,

The craziness: how many options there exist if a grower wants to choose
6 seeds from a set of 100 different seeds? Answer: 858,277,728,000 options.
(The product 100 x 99 x 98 x 97 x 96 x 95)

I think the obsession of this addictive hobby is in the seed selection
process, a conscious or subconcious process.

Wim: First suggested choice, 715 Goodpasture with 656 Bhaskaran...

Meanwhile... Merry Xmas for all the pumpkin growers!! Don't forget to include
in your menu a pumpkin pie or a pumpkin candy!!
