Hi Mike,
I called Don back and got more info. He grew the 350est. in 1999. It was
yellow with big ribs. He also said it had the largest diameter stem of any
pumpkin he has ever grown. It was round in shape and had no Dill Ring. If the
seed has any down side it has thrown some Dill Ring pumpkins. I believe the
one lost in Canada was due to a Dill Ring.
On the AGGC site the 856 Simmons is listed as open. If you go to the
Pumpkin Info page and scroll down to comments It says it was hand Pol. with
the 567.4 Wallace then left open. This is not accurate. The 755 Simmons
(grown on same plant) is listed as being from the 935 Lloyd X 567.4 Wallace.
It was from the 1999 350lb est. Langevin (which is from the 935 X 567.4) X
open. Amy Dopp's 788.6 should be listed also as 1999, 350lb est. Langevin X
open. If you scroll down to Comments it reads very well, Something about
unspecified Langevin seed from a 935 Lloyd X 567.4 Wallace. Hope this helps!
Don said he sent out 70-80 packs of these seeds with 6 seeds per pack. If
we can find out who the growers were (most of them most likely new) there
should be seeds around. Don did not keep records as to who got these seeds
with their pumpkin book
