Re: lobes and seed quality

Mark,
Last night in our discussion I was not saying necessarily that
one lobe produces better seeds than another. What I am trying to find out is
if you can identify by lobe, the shape and size characteristics of a pumpkin.
Ex. If a particular lobe is marked (lobe 1) on a pumpkin, I want to know if
those seeds contained in that lobe produce a consistent shape and size trend.
If so, are they better than the seeds from lobes2,3,4,5 etc. Here is
why. It is known that two seeds from the same pumpkin can give you
drastically different results. Ex. some 815 Andersen seeds give you a
pumpkin while other seeds from the same pumpkin end up growing you a squash.
2nd example The 801.5 Stelts throws two very different shaped pumpkins one
is long and low while the other is shorter and higher.
Thus, if we can determine that seeds from a particular lobe of a
pumpkin are going to always give you a certain result, we will better know
which seeds to plant from that pumpkin to achieve our desired result. Has
anyone else ever tested this?

Brad
