Re: Pre- 2000: Lost seed genetics

Marc,
I've got the Schlutt's and *maybe* the 878 Wilson. And I might know where a Donkers is.

With most of the present day seeds containing 575 Dill, 674 or 746 Waterman,
or Neily/ Craven genetics somewhere in their backgrounds, I've wondered just
how many of the seeds listed below are anywhere to be found. Somewhere along
the way, growers forgot about a lot of the ones I have listed for unknown
reasons. I encourage everyone who has any of these to find someone to grow
them. there are so many I'd like to grow, but I could only pick a couple of
them myself to actually have room for them. Still, if there are any seeds you
might have, please either e mail me privately or make a post of the ones you'd
consider letting go so perhaps someone else might find a home for them. There
are so many good new crosses which makes people forget about the older stuff.
A lot of these older strains will soon become extinct, as they will not be
viable soon... many already probably are not. The 898 could be an example of
"new blood' infused into the modern day stuff... although it's basically a
mystery seed.

Here is a listing of the ones I'd like to turn up somewhere.. A lot of these
are extinct or lost in the voids of someone's basement dust, but each one of
these listed have been on my list of genetics to look for. If you have any of
these, please let me know of anything is on here which you probably would not
grow.

I know a lot of these are seeds which nobody has ever heard of, but
genetically speaking, any of these are very important, as some of them do not
even have genetic ties to the seeds of today. Those types of genetics would be
great candidates to produce seed crosses capable of "hybrid vigor", if you
understand or agree with my theory on how that could be a possibility. The
seeds listed that do have genetics in a lot of today's genetics, are seeds
which could play a great part of genetic isolation. Whatever the seed I
listed...if you look in the AGGC, perhaps you might find out enough clues to
explain my interest in these mostly obscure seeds. I listed everything I know
of that I'd consider breeding. It is possible you may not even have one of the
seeds I have listed...as I do not... but it doesn't hurt to ask!
