As a result of my Halloween carving party, I have ~4,000 lbs of pumpkins in
a pit in the back yard. They are slowly rotting, but I would like to get
the mass to hot compost. I have ~2,000 lbs of partially decomposed oak
leaves to add as a carbon source, and ~4,000 lbs of almost finished green
leaf compost.
I have looked at various recipes for hot compost but can't quite translate
the suggested 30:1 carbon:nitrogen levels into the materials I have at had.
Does anyone know what I should add, or in what quantity?
Next question: is there any way to set it up so I don't have to manually
turn 10 thousand pounds of material every week, by hand? I like
weightlifting, but this sounds a bit extreme.
