IMHO pictures should not be allowed as attachments to e-mail period.
Pictures need to be linked in the e-mail to a web page. If the person
wanting to send a picture doesn't have, or doesn't know how to create a
page, then I suspect Duncan (or I, or many others) could create a page
that list members send pictures to, via an address OTHER than directly
to the list, and they could then be posted to the page for discretionary
viewing.
The problem with pictures as e-mail attachments is that if several
people send pictures the same day you can really get bogged down when
you go to sneak a peek at your mail, say like at work.
Additional problems such as someone not familiar with pictures sending
some HUGE picture that can take forever to load. (It has happened on
this list before.)
The different picture formats, and how to reduce their size, is a
challenge for even experienced users.
Sending pictures outside the list solves the problem of tying up the
list yet allows good quality pictures to be seen.
And no Duncan, you are not wasting our time. Now is the time to get this
issue resolved as I would love to see more pictures, lots of pictures,
or put another way, TONS more pictures.
