Soil Test

I would like to reiterate a question that appeared back in October. Jim
(I think) asked what tests you all would recommend beyond the basic soil
test. Michael in Akron said tell them you are growing pumpkins, send
in your money, and they will do the rest. But the University of
Maryland's STL has additional fees for additional tests. It's fine to
tell them I am growing pumpkins, but they aren't going to perform tests
that I haven't paid them for.

The add-ons are calcium, organic matter, soluble salts, nitrate,
sulfate, manganese & zinc & copper & sulfate, boron, cation exchange
capacity, mechanical analysis (sand/silt/clay %), moisture, and ash.

For reference, testing all of the above would cost $57 as opposed to $5
for the basic texture/pH/magnesium/phosphorous/potassium, so it makes a
large difference.

Suggestions??

Thanks.
Beth Rado
