With all the talk about pumpkins growing more at night, surely it is
possible to increase growth rate by physically
(greenhouses/shadehouses/humidifiers etc) and chemically (hormonal
supplements/alterations) changing growing conditions so that while
sufficient levels of photosynthesis are maintained, a greater than
normal rate of growth is achieved. Maybe this is the future of pumpkin
growing - but I would personally prefer the ol' hard work and manure
trick.

exceptional, if slightly hot, weather, and who will go out first thing
in the morning with tape measure in hand.
