Slugs

Hello
Ive been planting pumpkins for about 4 years now...biggest has been
about 200lbs......But this year my pumpkin patch and vegetable garden
was over come by slugs....They came by the thousands and ate
everything..used a method of putting beer out in a tin pan...many slugs
died but they kept coming back...probably went through a 1/2 case of
beer but couldn't stop the slugs..Anyone else have this problem and any
suggestions..This was the first time this ever happened?
