Gday All,
It is that season where Christmas beatles get up in the gum trees and eat
all the leaves. They deposit their droppings on the ground and if you have a
tree over your pool the droppings will clog the filter, At times the beatles
fall from the trees like rain. I have the gum tree close to my patch and
beatles are landing on the pumpkins. These beatles produce scarab grubs that
eat the roots of grasses and cause dead patches in your lawn. I am
interested to know if the csarab grubs are particular as to what they eat ie
will they eat pumpkin roots or are they only interested in grass roots? Any
thoughts?
My pumpkins are producing a number of females now and some are starting to
fill out. I have removed most of them as it has been a little early and the
vines have not been where I want them. This is about to change now as the
runners are almost in place and I am looking at a couple of female flowers
as possible starters. What is effect of the number of segments on the fruit?
Is five segments a good choice, most of the flowers I have inspected seem to
have five segments.
