Rick,
I have been experimenting to work out the water content of my soil. I added
about 140ml of water to 300 ml of soil which I figured was saturated. I then
tool 2/3 of this water (about 100 ml) and mixed that. This lThe result
looked closer to 100% than the earlier mixture which was a little over-done
so I figure with my soil 100ml of water to 300ml of soil is close enough to
100% saturated.
I then mixed a 67% mixture and it looked like very wet mud. It is thick
enough to stay in a cup when held inverted.
With the Rapitest moisture meter in the 67% mixture and it reads full scale,
past the end of the 4. (The scale is calibrated from 1 to 4 dry to wet).
Next I measured the water level in my two plots, the one that is doing well
reads in the low to mid 4 range, the other reads full scale.
I am not sure wht this means but I am going to try reducing the water a
little and see how it goes.
