Craig,
This past season, I had a vine past the pumpkin that was as big around as your
forearm. I had to trim the vine in half, to make it more flexable. This vine
started to give me problems around 400 lbs. The vine past the pumpkin was cut
off around 550 lbs. It was growing nicely in the 800 lb range when disease set
in and finished me off.
So how important is the vine past the pumpkin? I really don't know.
