Re: watering
This method is used in Greenhouses and is either done on benches that are
really just shallow pans about 6 inches deep made out of plastic. There
is an inlet and an outlet and the water / ferterlizer mix is pumped in
and drained out. The larger greenhouse production facilities make the
"pans" by actually forming them into the "floor" of the greehouse the
tanks for solution are located in the "basement" along the edge of the
greehouse and the solutions are computer monitored for ph and chemical
content. This bottom watering is an excellent way to start Pumpkins and
melons in peat pots and just use a shallow solid flat or pan. In
additon, to this method another way to deep water is to use the tree root
feeders you see in the store or catalogs. This is a long rod that
attaches to the garden hose an is designed to deep water and fertilize
tree roots. It should work great for deep watering special plants of
interest! Any method that keeps the leafs of the plant dry is worth the
effort.
