I agree with George, I favor deep watering in lieu of misters and drip
irrigation. Plants in my Florida climate would not tolerate misting because of
the rampant fungus issues here. We prefer to water every morning, then let the
brief afternoon rains give them a final drink about 3 or 4 pm, just in time
for the plants to dry before sundown at 9pm.
This past summer in NY, the garden was much different. We deep watered using
well water and garden hoses from 11am to 1 pm. No evaporation to speak of,
cooler weather, clay type soil enriched with manure. Excellent water
distribution and retention in the soil; no heat stress in the plants. Cooler
nights and heavy dew created a fungus problem late in the season, right about
harvest time. We picked and cleared the patch of vegetation instead of
spraying.
Each patch is it's own micro-climate and what works for some may not be the
best for others. Keep an open mind and try a few different methods before
settling on what you feel is best for you and your garden circumstances.
