Selling Seeds

This topic and variations of it have come up from time to time. Is it OK for
amateurs to "go professional" in this one area.
Obviously selling seeds is OK. It's what nursery people do for a living. And
if there are large monetary prizes for growing something big and ugly and not
green, then why not ask for money when someone wants a certain seed to
improve their chances in that lottery?
What we see here is something like the Olympics. For a while it really was
amateur. Rich people with enough leisure either took part or sponsored worthy
athletes. Then came the inclusion of more and more athletes sponsored by
governments (remember Russian "Women" weightlifters?). Finally it got down to
where the highest paid athletes in the history of the known universe,
American basketball players, could be in the Olympics.
So, are we eventually going to have an amateur and a professional division in
our "sport." Or will it remain a hobby for a few romantic nuts who like big
round orange things?
