  I would think that the plant would get what is known as wet feet.  This 
happens in house plants alot.  The root rots because it is constantly in 
contact with water.  the root also does not get air so the root does not work 
properly.
   If you could drain it from time to time, say once a week for a day or two 
and also bubble air throught the water during the rest of the week you should 
be ok.  This is haw a popular hydroponics system works.
   i feel it might be a bit much work to set up and run.  I would rather 
moniter the plant and add fertilizers as needed.
