I believe the best time to bury the vines is when you see that tiny little
root growing from the base of the leaf joint. I experimented with a few
plants last year. I found by waiting a little, the root system from
burying the vine created a spider web system on the plants that had the
root at the leaf base. If I buried too soon the root system seem to form
less, but wider roots. I prefer the spider feeder roots over a few wide
long roots.
