Running a mailing list is the toughest job around.
Mallorn agrees, this is the most difficult one to
manage.
About seed auctions, I dont mind them, I just never
understood it was going to be a daily post for 10 days
straight. This is my fault for not reading the
requested email. Everyone, thank you again for your
comments.
Now if I look at the stats for approval or disapproval
on how I run this mailing list, the disapproval are
more visible to the subscribers, but I see allot more
approvals which are sent to me via private email.
Yes, every winter we seem to have a blow out.
Here are some issues you should consider in responding
to any mailing list :
When you send in a post or reply to a post, be sure
the your question or reply is value added to the
subscribers of the mailing list.
If the reply or post is meant for a single person then
that is considered personal chatter. This is
considered non value added.
For the Pumpkin Mailing list, please read. PLEASE Read
Language used on the mailing list:
When you compose your post, you need to ask yourself
"Is the language presentable to support 6th grade
teachers class?" You must be careful in the language
and tone you use in your replies. All these replies
are archived for life and anyone can read them. I
personally do not want to see anymore mud slinging
between members. If I am in a bad mood, I could
delete you. Please do not use any foul language or
language that a 6th grade teacher would use in her
class. Maybe I should consider a male teacher too.
Any foul language use, you will be removed.
Replies to a post:
Be very careful in replying. Please remove any text
that is non supportive to your reply.
Looking for an email address:
Email addresses for members can be found in the
mallorn archives search engine. Just type in the name
and you will find them
http://www.mallorn.com/lists/pumpkins/search.cgi
or you can send mail to majordomo@mallorn.com and in
the body of the text, type in help.
Seed Auctions:
I think seed auctions should be held only once a week.
If additional visibility is required, I would
recommend creating a homepage. If you have trouble
creating a homepage, You can also post your auctions
currently via two avenues.
http://www.backyardgardener.com/pumpboard/wwwboard.html
or http://www.plantideas.com/photoads/
The pumpboard, is another avenue to ask questions to
members. You can say what you want. Just dont say
anything foul.
The photoads is a Free Garden Classified ads site.
Visibility is low, but who knows your current homepage
might be also. In October 99, a million people visited
my site for pumpkin information. So the word is out.
Degrading people, Negative remarks:
If you elect to degrade people on the mailing list, I
will remove you. The opinion of a degrading or a
negative remark is determined by me.
Questions to the mailing list:
Questions to the mailing list must support the
education and the sport of growing pumpkins and or
squash. Other questions or post are non value added to
the mailing lists.
Foolishness.
There is a zero tolerance for foolishness. You will
be removed.
Signature file requirements:
All posters are required to include their growing zone
and county. See this link: USA

Europe
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/b_and_t_world_seeds/european.htm
Please add this to your signature file at the end of
every post. Please also address how many years you
have been growing pumpkins.
Opinions:
Opinions or comments about these guidelines should be
sent to me at m*@yahoo.com. Comments sent
to the mailing list is non value added. If you dont
like my guidelines, there are other mailing lists you
can join.
The goal is to regroup and focus on pumpkin growing
and the fun sport we all enjoy. Please dont send
opinions a comments about this post to the mailing
list. Please send them to me at
m*@yahoo.com. Please dont send them to my
work address.
Any attacks to the mailing list with a virsus or spam
will be reported to your ISP for action. Mallorn will
request individual ISP accounts be terminated if the
notice any type of attack or spam that is sent to
there sever.
Please save this post for future reference.
