pumpkin rankings

Steve,

Thanks for the feedback. I am not sure which list you are reffering to so I
will explain the 3 lists that we have in the paper.

1. Seed Pedigrees of Canada's Top 700+ Pumpkins in 1999. - page 7 - 14
The title of this list is self explanatory. Due to the cost of producing
this info we focued on the pumpkins grown in Canada. I believe it is
complete but any feedback would be appreciated.

2. Top 100 Canadian AG - all years to 99 - Page 15
Again this title is self-explanatory. There were a couple of editor cut &
paster errors that will be corrected in the next edition. If the list was
the top 100 of everywhere it would just be a copy of Duncan's top 1000.

3. Vital Statistics of 700+ Pumpkins Grown in 1999. Page 16
This list was provided by Tony Ciliberto. I know some pumpkins are missing
from the list, particularly most the pumpkin weighed in Ottawa. Why?
Because no one sent Tony the information for those pumpkin. Although we had
planned to collect this info at the Ottawa weighoff, it did not happen.
Tony distributed the info he was given. The OSLGA is grateful that he
allowed us to share it with all of our members. Duncan can attest to the
difficulty and the time required to collect data each year.

Overall, the categorizations are basically clear. If we missed somebody
within a categorization we would be glad to hear from you. We try to make
them as accurate as possible. If anybody has prepared a list or has an
analysis of weights/seeds/weighoff sites or anything else we would be glad
to publish it. If you wish to submit an article about your weighoff or your
growing experience this past year we would love to publish it. It does not
matter whether you are a member of the OSLGA or the GPC or the WPC or the
IPC.

We are limited by two factors time and money. Anything too large would be
too costly. Our costs are based upon printed page. We also need 4-8 weeks
for submissions for the newspaper.

I hope I am not being too controversial but there are editorial decisions
that are made and these outline our decisions. If anyone would like to
discuss this further please contact me directly as I do not wish to bogdown
the list.

Thats all for now

Bruce Kaye
Director - OSLGA

Now that we've recieved our copies of the OSLGA paper(nice job by the way),
I noticed that several growers were listed with GPC but not on the OSLGA
ranking list from 1999. Does a grower have to weigh-off at a OSLGA site to
be on their rankings ? Or if your a member and dues are current in OSLGA,
does that allow you. Just wondering out loud. Pumpkinpiper
