Late
February greetings to all. As one
fresh to this list, but experienced in gardening, I welcome the anticipated
interaction with all. I live in
Northern Indiana, near the 42 degree latitude target zone, where across the
country big Atlantic Giants have been grown. Although, I have grown Atlantic Giant and Prizewinner
pumpkins in the past, it is only now that I looking for the BIG experience of
growing a true giant. Behind the
house, I have 1,000 square feet of land near a wetlands and the appropriate
soaker hose apparatus to water a BIG pumpkin plant. I enjoy the use of compost and liquid fertilizers, and have
grown less fond of using black plastic and granular fertilizer. Soil is part clay and the coming summer
is suppose to be hot and dry.
Consequently, I worked ten bales of straw into the ground two years ago
and am looking to continue to improve the soil. I would
welcome anyone who might spare me needless suffering in my endeavors to join a
group of talented gardeners who enjoy growing the king of the garden. Additionally, I would enjoy sharing in
my experiences where applicable. As to not
waste time learning for the upcoming season, I visited several web pages
yesterday, including www.backyardgardener.com,
and last night read the works of the following enthusiasts: Ray
Waterman Howard
Dills Don
Langevin George
Brooks David A.
Mangione Tonight, I
hope to cover the basics of genetics in the AG and it’s regional variances. Sincerely, Matt
