John and List,
I've been using my wifes old nylons this way for the past couple seasons
and found you can make the pantyhose go a little further if you cut the legs
into several sections and just tie a knot in one end of them. you can
easily cover a half dozen blooms with one pantyhose this way. If you're
using your wifes old knee highs and the run is in the toe again just tie a
knot and you have an intact cover that stays on well because the little
prickles on the outside of the flower grab the nylon and hold on well. I've
never had one blow off in the wind. Make sure you remove them from the
pollinated fruit after a couple days though as you could end up with a
misshapen pumpkin if its is allowed to grow inside the stocking. They get a
little tough to remove once the fruit is cantaloupe sized.
