Re: Selfing
I was hoping someone could give me some data on the increase of reliability
of selfed lines of AGs
Are selfed lines pumping out more large offspring?
At a glance you might see some hints of hybrid vigor but I don't see any
TRUE cases. So that theory is a good study to be tried.
What we see with top pumpkins is good genes. Look at the 723 and
845bobier you have a collection of our best in a cross.
Sometimes it looks like there are compatibility barriers........it is
interesting as not to long ago it was thought to be folly to try and
recreate good crosses.
But if AGs have a huge portion of Quantitative inheritance where many genes
are interacting to produce the outcome were looking for maybe we should
study gene combos that seem to mix well.
Another theory is it is a fact that the egg contains more cytoplasm than
the male pollen grain. So seeds are influenced more by the mother. There
could be a growth enhancing gene in that cytoplasm that can only be passed
by the mother.
Just some thoughts.
