Mine was a 910 Nelson last year.
After being shredded early by a groundhog at about the
vining stage, the plant was left completely alone to
finish out its short lived existence. To my surprise
it started to come back by sprouting new vines from
the munched and shredded stump. After leaving the
plant alone for about another week to see if any of
the new vines would have any vigor for a new primary,
I noticed the initial wound had been invaded by
thousands of decomposition mites thinking it was there
time to shine. Upon convincing the mites with a
little chemical motivation, that the plant evidently
was not ready to fade away, another couple weeks past
where the plant basically healed itself and with a
little pruning developed a quad-main pattern. This
plant continued to grow vigorously with each of the 4
mains producing foliage that rivaled, in area, any of
my other single main plants.
In the end, this plant produced 4 400lb pumpkins(one
on each of its mains) which, considering the SC state
record at that time being only 562, was quite the
yield! This plant showed so much resilience and vigor
I chose it(over my initially planned pollinator) to
pollinate an equally strong though less storied plant
that turned out to produce the new SC state record of
696.
I'll be growing another 910 this year...because after
all, if I can get 1600lbs from it once, on a highly
challenged plant, I obviously should be able to do at
least as well with one with only one main and one
fruit. {:^)>
Too bad its not that easy!! BF
