My understanding is that Water Melon Mosaic comes from the soil, not seed,
plant etc.
Thanks

Mosaic Virus doesn't originate in soil. It is vectored by insects that are
finding the causal virulent pathogen in an alternate host growing nearby. A
perennial weed or other plant of some sort is the most likely source. If
you
can identify the source & it is in a place where it can be removed, this
might offer your plants the best relief. Good weed & insect control
(especially Aphids & Cucumber beetles) in & around your own patch might do
the most for you.

I have personally seen Virus prone patches turn virus free without the use
of soil sterilants & believe the cause was weed eradication & crop
alteration nearby.
Or also see some of the links from our website.
Best wishes with it. -Steve
