Marv: Good question. I would suppose the answer is tied closely with the degree of homozygosity of the seed to start with. The more homozygous the seed, the more likely offspring will exhibit the same traits. A related question: if a 723x846 is a good cross, then would a 1130 Hilstolsky (723xself) x 735 Pukos (846xself) be a better one?

Subject: 723 selfed
If someone took a 723 Bobier or an 846 Calai and selfed them, what are the
odds that the seed produced in this manner (F2) would be as good as the
original seed, one in 50 or one in 1000? I know this has been covered elsewhere but
I have never seen a number relating to the possibility for seed.
