They usually turn to artifical only if they dont find real ones. I've been  
sending these notes out for a few years, and usually hook them up with growers  
early in the year. One grower saves some each year for this. Trouble is, I  
haven't heard from them. 
 
A couple of years ago, the folks from Fear Factor tried to get 200 in the  
springtime. That proved impossible and they had to change their production  
plans!  
 
BTW: I hook up the grower and buyer. I don't get involved in the  transacton 
or profit from it. Growers have told me supply and demand makes for  great 
prices to desperate buyers. Its really amazing. They pay and assemble the  stars, 
camera crew  and setup. All of a sudden someone in the crew says  "Hey, where 
do you get pumpkins for the set this time of year?" Then, panic  sets in and 
the  email and/or call me.
