Hello,
My husband and I opened a pumpkin patch last year. Along with your
basic pumpkin patch, we also run field trips through, and have a pumpkin
shop (pumpkin accessories, fall/halloween crafts, novelties, etc). Our
first year seemed successful, but I know we have to add
additions/improvements each year in order to succeed. We had the
following our first year: corn maze, sidewalk chalk for signing the
brick silo, pumpkin dunkin' tank (served as science experiment for field
trips, and pumpkin washing tank for families to clean pumpkins in), and
stuff-your-own scarecrow area (along, of course, with pumpkins in both
the yard and the pumpkin patch). We'd like to grow a bit with the
entertainment aspect. Does anybody have some not-too-expensive ideas
for the beginners?
My field trip presentations included pumpkins (of course), corn (indian,
sweet, field, and popcorn). We also had a small test plot of cotton and
mexican giant corn - for educational purposes for the children. I ran
600 children through last year - and only advertised to our small town.
I expect lots more next year, and would like to improve my
presentation/field trips wherever I can.
ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED!
Sue (alias 'The Pumpkin Lady')
